You must have usually lived and worked in the UK for a specific duration, typically 5 years. However, the residency requirements may differ based on your visa category::

  • Tier 1 visa: 2 or 3 years.

  • Innovator Founder or Global Talent visa: 3 years.

  • Salary or financial requirements may also apply depending on your visa.

  • You may apply for ILR if you hold a work visa and meet the residency criteria.

  • If you have a partner, parent, child, or other relative settled in the UK as a British citizen or a person with ILR, you may be eligible to apply based on your family connection.

  • You may apply if you have been living in the UK for 10 years or more. A different application route is available if your visa is based on your private life, with applications opening in June 2022.

  • Commonwealth citizens who have been living in the UK for 5 years on a UK Ancestry visa may apply.
